CodeWarrior and MFC v4.0
Tim Philip -- philip@cs.usask.ca Thursday, January 11, 1996 Has anybody had any experience with the CodeWarrior development system and MFC v4.0? Anything you can tell me would be appreciated. I'm involved with a research project at the U of Saskatchewan that will require MS-Windows as well as MacOS interfaces (and X if we can swing it). CodeWarrior at $300 seems like a much cheaper tool than the $3,000 MS cross compiler. [Moderator's note: Well, actually just my own 2 cents. As I understand it, the MFC that comes with CodeWarrior is only for use on Windows platforms (CW compiles for several target processors. That was certainly the case in CW7, and they don't seem to be indicating that it's any different in CW8. However, it would be very nice if I were wrong about this, since I do not have time to get my head around PowerPlant, I can't afford a personal copy of the MS cross-compiler, and I'd love to be able to write programs for my Macs.] Thanks! ------- Tim Philip, B.Sc. Here's my understanding of what they offer: Code Warrior for Windows can compile MFC but NOT PowerPlant (CodeWork's Mac-based class library) Code Warrior for Mac can compile PowerPlant but NOT MFC Neat huh? Basically, MS hasn't released a x-Platform version of MFC to other tool developers, you can only get it with Dev Studio. And Code Works has no plans to port PowerPlant to Windows. In summary: Code Warrior doesn't solve any x-Platform issues if you plan to use either MFC or PowerPlant. On a similar note: does anyone have any experience x-compiling from MSVC++ and MFC to the Macintosh (either PPC or 68k)? I'd love to hear about the issues involved.
