Kruglinski's new edition shipping
djw@arbortext.com Wednesday, January 10, 1996 The new edition of David Kruglinski's book "Inside Visual C++" is really shipping. I had it backordered, and it arrived today. The subtitle is "The standard reference for programming with Microsoft Visual C++ Version 4". On the cover, it says Covers: * MFC 4.0 * 32-bit programming for Windows * OLE and ODBC topics * Components Gallery * Other advanced tools and techniques I've only glanced at the contents briefly, so I can't offer any meaningful opinion on the book yet. I had seen enough complimentary reports on the previous editions to go ahead and place my order sight unseen. The last I heard, the new edition of Petzold was still expected to be out in February, and I'm looking forward to that one too, although I don't expect it will have MFC-specific information in it. BLAINE ANDERSON -- Blaine.Anderson@msfc.nasa.gov Friday, January 12, 1996 I owned the previous version of Inside VC++ and learned a lot about MFC. This was the book that got me started in MFC programming and I have recommended it to everyone who asked. I recently bought the latest edition and my impressions are as follows: *It still is THE book for SDK programmers who want to learn MFC. *Its strong suit is the coverage of the Document/View architechure, printing and print preview and on-line help. *It is weak in it's coverage of Windows controls (CListCtrl, CTreeCtrl, etc, etc) I did not feel that the new material it contained justified the almost $50.00 price tag, however. I recommend that anyone who owns an earlier edition of the book spend a little time in the bookstore with this 3rd edition before taking it home. Just my $0.02 Blaine Anderson NASA/MSFC

It seems to be the same old stuff with a few added topics. But all in all it seems the same. However, I didn't read it too thoroughly so I am not completely sure if it is exactly the same. I just seems so. JB nrd1jrb@nrd.ups.com Jim Bucciferro
